Office in XML

Thursday, June 2nd, 2005

Big News today is that Microsoft announced new, open xml file formats for office. Apparently the files are zip compressed, so if you unzip them, you have access to the xml (text) files. Which is pretty cool. I wonder if you can turn off the compression so that you can still throw it in source control and have the diff/merge that Matt Raible has been looking for?
Another neat implication is that it’ll be easier to generate reports to excel…(or powerpoint?).
